THE HISTORY OF ISLAMIC PATTERNS

Islamic patterns are also steeped in symbolism, and many of the shapes and designs used in these patterns have specific cultural and religious meanings. For example, the use of the star and crescent symbol represents the triumph of Islam, while the use of interlocking geometric shapes symbolizes the interconnectedness of all things in the universe.

Overall, the beauty of Islamic patterns is a testament to the rich cultural heritage and artistic traditions of Islamic civilizations. These patterns continue to inspire artists and designers today, and their timeless beauty remains a source of inspiration and wonder for people all over the world.  The essence of this part of Islamic heritage is embedded in our craft and expressed through our design of the Lusail watch.

KUFIC SCRIPT: A JOURNEY THROUGH THE HISTORY AND ART OF ISLAMIC CALLIGRAPHY

The Kufic script is among the most prominent and oldest types of Arabic calligraphy, characterized by its unique design and extensive use in Islamic architecture and manuscripts. Its origins in Hira, before the establishment of the city of Kufa, add to its historical and cultural depth. The use of Kufic script in writing the Quran and on the walls of mosques and palaces reflects its significance in Islamic civilization.

The progression of Kufic script through different stages, such as the Mashq and Muhaqqaq scripts, demonstrates the development of Arabic calligraphy and the importance of aesthetics and precision in writing. The use of various writing techniques reflects creativity and innovation in the art of Arabic calligraphy.

The embellishments and ornamentation in Kufic script, along with the diverse use of geometric and floral forms, make it an artistic expression that embodies Islamic aesthetics and contributes to enriching Islamic arts overall.

TIMELESS ELEGANCE: NUMERAL DESIGN INSPIRED BY THE HISTORIC CLOCK DIAL OF JAFFA'S TOWER

The Jaffa Clock Tower, a historically significant building from the Ottoman period, stands centrally in the heart of the city of Jaffa in Palestine. It is one of seven clock towers built in Palestinian cities to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Sultan Abdul Hamid II’s accession to the Ottoman throne.

Completed in 1906, the Jaffa Clock Tower represents one of the most prominent architectural and historical symbols in the city with its ornamental numerals on the dial, which reflect the cultural heritage of the area. It stands as a living monument to the city’s history, and its significance is particularly great as many other historical monuments were destroyed during the occupation in 1948.

During the occupation of the State of Palestine, the original clock dial, which was characteristic of a rich Islamic style, was replaced in an attempt to hide the traces of its Palestinian origins.
